As I write this, kernel.org says 6.14 is the latest kernel release,
while security updates have been released in 7.1.3, 6.18.38 and other
branches.

A couple of days ago there was apparently some severe mishap in the
service we're being told to pay for and to trust infinitely because
they're expected to be so much better than what we have now.

I'm sorry for their woes, but this doesn't inspire confidence.

If such a thing happens to their most important project, and keeps
security fixes off their front page for so long, what can we reasonably
expect for our packages?
