So I cloned libs-gui from git, switched to service-fixes, built and 
installed.
I confirm the issue was fixed.
The URL expected is now opened in a new tab.
Successfully tested with links in:
- GNUMail,
- TextEdit (RTF file).

Thanks for the work done.

P.S.: the badge issue also seems to not happen now.
