It is disappointing, although "wide char" Unicode
(wide char anything really) in streams and filenames
was purposefully excluded from POSIX i18n and
therefore C++ standard templates and etc. The reasons
still make sense - as long as you don't assume all
platforms should work the Microsoft way :-). That's
not the only portability issue, obviously, so need a
portability layer anyway.

Matching printf functionality is a really good idea.
