The driver I'm using is from version 1.16 of the package that's
available on the site you mentioned.  As of this writing, there seems to
be no newer version.  Anyway, the driver isn't detected, even when I
create a symlink to libscr33x.so.4.1.1.

It doesn't.  In also tried symlinking to libccid.so, without success
(forgot to mention that in my original post).

But: I just installed version 0.9.3 of libccid and now the reader gets
detected!  "geldkarte2 loaded" works but I'm missing documentation for
this tool (I assume that it will be added later).

Anyway, thanks for libchipcard2! It looks like a very valuable piece of
software.
