PL2303 Serial > Port [...] Oh, that's an ugly one: The reader does not identify itself by an unique id, instead the USB id of the usb-serial-converter applies... Unfortunately the palm cradle seems to show the same behaviour... So autodetection isn't possible on your system :-( This is extremely bad since your reader is sometimes at port 0 and sometime at port 1 (that mainly has to do with the palm cradle, which doesn't register as device at all unless it is activated). Maybe you could send the content of /sys/bus/usb-serial/ (with the reader connected) and of /proc/tty/driver/usbserial ?
