I've added the private key to the file. I now get 

Got event: 3106 - ignored.
Got event: 2002 - ignored.
0 
[email protected]: 0 (null)

(email address changed). This is not immediately meaningful to me. The
command used was

./mail-file-a -T -h 192.168.211.89:25 test-mail [email protected]
