$gcc --version
2.9-aix51-020209

which is to say, I think this is 2.95something.  I have searched the web and 
have found a source for gcc 3.2, so I may start by upgrading that.  I was mostly 
curious whether my quest would be for naught because clockspeed doesn't support 
the PPC architecture.
