Yep agree with Xiaofan, get a starter kit a few tens of dollars
is well spent, "...microcontrollers...are somewhat difficult for me"
is no excuse wasting hours on fruitless exercises.

For the price of family dinner at Macdonals you can get a
development kit and it will save you hours of frustration.
