done. I modified the ncurses test program's F/f test-screens to provide
a toggle between waddch and winsch so that I could explore this a little.
For this case, the toggle shows the same result (and doesn't crash).
Interestingly, the FreeBSD 14 that I used for testing is missing some
of the data (see the replacement character several places in the attached
screenshot).
