c99 code is fine with me, but if newlib
decides it requires a c99 compiler for
building then it might consider cleaning
up the pre-c89 compatibility code it has.

sounds good.

i think math errno is not particularly useful in newlib.

different translation units may be compiled with
different flags, so separate symbols may be needed.

but i think for now a newlib build time setting is ok.
