Hi,

unfortunately its big apps, the snippet to move the source is :

static double t = 0.0f;
double degAngle = (360.0*((double)RPM/60.0)*t);
float orgX = this->inputs->cyclicX/6.0f;
float orgY = this->inputs->cyclicY/6.0f;
float x = 1.5f-3.0f*(float)cos(sm::Deg2Rad(degAngle)) + orgX;
float y = 1.5f-3.0f*(float)sin(sm::Deg2Rad(degAngle)) + orgY;
t += 1.0f/30.0f;
if(t >= 1.0f)
{
t=0.0f;
}

z is fixed at 0.0f. so x and y values should varying in range -1.5 to 1.5. its not the value that is actually passed to alSource3f since I used something like scenegraph, so alsource3f value will be in world coordinate depend on the parent node that the sound node is attached.

then I try to compile sample project from openAL SDK, using same visual studio version and compiler setting that i currently used, there's no problem, maybe its not openAL faults, its mine, thanks anyway.

Hi,

Can you print out the x,y,z co-ordinates that you are passing to alSourcefv (or alSource3f) and see if the values look sensible?

Is this a test application that you can easily send me to look at?

hi,

I have 1 listener, 1 source, the listener is placed at center, while the source is circling the listener horizontally, in debug mode I heard that the sound is moving from left of my earphone to the right while the source is circling the listener, but on release version, both left and right earphone are equally loud and no fluctuation in volume and I don't feel sound movement. the source is fixed at 1.0f gain and 1.0f pitch, no speed value is specified, and looping.

thanks

Hi,

I'm not too familiar with those compiler settings to know if that means for 100% certain that no uninitialized variables are being passed to OpenAL.

Can you give some more details about the problem that occurs in Release vs Debug builds? e.g When you say that sounds are not spatialized ... does that mean that the sounds seem to play from the same location as the listener (resulting in all sounds playing from all speakers)? Are the sounds at full volume or is any attenuation happening?

Re: [Openal] release version problem
Hi, thanks for quick reply.

I solved it by set compiler (visual studio) settings to /RTCs (Stack Frames) in "Basic Runtime check" for release build of my application.

but if I turn off /RTCu (uninitialized variables) the program still run ok as long as /RTCs is set, so it doesn't need /RTCu. in that case I think its not because of uninitialized var. what's another possibility related to stack frames?

thanks

Hi,

Are you sure you are not passing uninitialized variables to OpenAL? In a
debug build, variables will be set to 0 by default but a release build will
not do this - meaning the values will be completely random (and in the case
of floats and doubles they might not even be valid numbers). Passing
uninitialized values to OpenAL could definitely mess up the 3D Audio
spatialization.

Which OpenAL device are you requesting in the call to alcOpenDevice?

[Openal] release version problem

hi,

I developed openAL App, on Windows 7 x64 using summer 2009 SDK from
creative, and I got problem when running release version of my application,
the sound seems not to be spatialized, but when I run the debug version of
my application, there's no problem sound is spatialized correctly.

both release and debug version are using same openal32.lib and I checked
using dependency walker both dynamically linked to Windows\System32
\OpenAL32.dll. My soundcard is Realtek HD and Creative X-Fi Titanium both
suffer from the same problem.

can anyone give me clue where should i fix this?

thank you
