Re: Sound doesn't play anymore after a few plays

I believe I'm the one that reported this problem.  I didn't find a
solution to the problem in the time I had available to me.  I believe
the problem is with ALSA driver itself and is due to integer overflow
(problem manifests after about 6+ hrs
(2^32=48000*2channels*2bytes/channel*3600*6.21)).

I found that one can suspend the process having the playback problem
very briefly and then resume it and it will start playing again
normally.

I looked at upgrading my ALSA stack but it wasn't feasible for my
situation.  Perhaps you have that option.  My net searching didn't find
any specific mention of this problem with ALSA but I did find some fixes
related to specific hardware on Fedora Core that seemed similar.  It has
been a few months since I last looked at this so the details are a bit
fuzzy.  I did patch ALSA on a machine and looked at debug output
in /sys/...(?) and saw that the problem happened when some counters
(related to drain?) wrapped around.  I didn't manage to find the logic
that wasn't handling that situation correctly.
