Here's a quick comment on the book "Beginning iPhone Games Development" from a third party (disclosure -- I did get my copy for free). I've read through most of it (and all the OpenAL stuff), and it's very well written. There are multiple authors, so there is some change in tone across different sections of the book, but for a technical work this doesn't strike me as much of an issue. Eric wrote all the audio stuff, so the tone and depth of coverage remains consistent across that section. The OpenAL parts are indeed applicable generally, and the rest seems quite good at introducing all the iPhone subjects (animation, OpenGL, networking, etc.) that are relevant to gaming. For OpenAL-oriented folks, I think this book would be excellent paired up with a copy of the OpenAL Programmer's Guide (free online). Having both, most OpenAL subjects would get covered from multiple angles. The book is more high-level generally, dipping down into the nitty-gritty stuff -- whereas the Guide meticulously documents each function and contains a brief high-level look at the overall API.
