Playback speeding up

Hi,

Recently, I've been trying to get our game working on newer Linux version
(Ubuntu 10.10 x64 currently), and it works fine except for OpenAL. We
have a music track streaming through OpenAL and then the various 3D
position sound sources, etc. At various random times, the music speeds up
for about 3-5 seconds and then goes back to normal, however, since the
pitch stays the same, it tells me that maybe something on the system is
trying to be "smart" and play catch-up for a sound device that is not
keeping up (mine is an SBLive!)... or similar. Any idea what might be
causing this?

I'll tell ya, with each new version of Linux, we get some new "sound
system" that causes even more problems than the previous one had. And it's
not clear why... I mean, there's nothing gained that I can see by
switching from the age-old ALSA/OSS stuff (that seemed to work for me).

Thanks,

 	Ed
