Front and Rear sound is same

I currently use a creative audigy sound card, which is supposed to have native support for openAL. The Front and the rear speakers play the same sound (just duplicates the front I feel), but the left right channels are accurate. I am using openAL through a java wrapper. JOAL. Is there a configuration in openAL to configure its 4.1 channels. Making it on the sound card seems not to work. I am very new to openAL and sound localization.
