alsa.c mmap commit error

Hi all!

We have created a very small piece of software on an ubuntu 10.04 machine
using AL to play and position sound. Sometimes when we run it we get a
runtime error saying:

AL lib: alsa.c:417: mmap commit error: Broken pipe

Does anybody know what that means? What are we most likely doing wrong? I
tried to google the error message but it didn't make me any wiser...\

Please excuse if my message lacks vital info - i will try to provide all
necessary details upon request.
