Thankyou for your response mark.
The problem, at least what I believe the problem to be, is No Good Deed
Goes Unpunished. When I merged in the current tip of tip from both
Scintilla and CopperSpice I picked up a bug on all platforms where
Selection Inactive Back is actually getting painted on the same layer as
the text layer __and__ it appears to always use an Alpha of 255, wiping out
the text.
Right now I'm in the process of spinning back my RPM branch
https://github.com/RolandHughes/copperspice/tree/RPM back to the August
2023 because I firmly believe this to be a bug in CopperSpice. Mainly I
believe it because I already rolled CsScintilla back to version 1.5.9 which
is where I merged in Scintilla 5.3.6 and building locally I still have the
problem.
Neil has graciously ran the 3.6.2 AppImage
https://sourceforge.net/projects/reddiamond/files/AppImages/ on his most
recent Ubuntu and it doesn't show the problem. I firmly believed that I
built that AppImage using the latest of both CsScintilla and my fork of
CopperSpice (they __still__ haven't pulled in the changes and they
__still__ don't have official RPM or Debian packages because they are still
Dr. Dorking around with the CMake packaging stuff that's never going to
work reliably, but that is a rant for another time and message board!)
Just a few moments ago I ran the "latest" AppImage on this machine running
Linux Mint

The AppImage works flawlessly. My local build still has the bug. The .json
I used to build the AppImage looks correct.

That doesn't mean the build was correct. It is theoretically possible in
the version renaming as part of the .deb creation process the 1.5.9 for
ubuntu 18.04 (where you build AppImages if you want them to actually run)
got renamed and pushed to SourceForge. Will let a build run this evening
and hopefully identify the problem. At this stage I have no problem rolling
back the version of CopperSpice I use. They haven't added that much, at
least not enough to make the bug worth dealing with.
*If* there was a Setting or Config value I could set in Scintilla to turn
off Inactive Selection Background painting anything at all, that would
allow me to blissfully ignore this issue.
I have reported the bug to CopperSpice, but they don't see it because their
Diamond <https://download.copperspice.com/diamond/binary/> editor uses
QTextEdit for its edit component and it doesn't other to change the
background when you click a different window.
I do thank you for responding though.
