rebuild and configuration

Hi, list members,
I rewrote part of the VOCAL code and rebuilt it (make; make
install).  After that I found that my configuration, such as the
password for VOCAL administrator, user list, was lost. I had to run
again the 'allinoneconfigure' script to reconfigure my VOCAL system.
Do you have any good idea to rebuild the code yet keep the
configuration?
