SetDataExtend and SetDataSpacing

Hi guys! Im new to vtk...i have 199 dicom images that i rendered in 3D. Now i
have to 'cut' this volume along the axial, sagittal and coronal plane...i
think i should use these 2 functions 
SetDataExtend 
SetDataSpacing
bui i dont know how they work! My images are 512x512 but how can i get this
information from the images so that if i use images with different sizes i
wont have problems?
SetDataSpacing wants the space between each slice in pixels??
