You need to have the application running from the pkg structure (Mac OSX
application bundle).  As I understand it, OS X uses the schema
information provided for maintaining/running the GUI application.

Yes, probably.  When I previously built wx.NET on OS X, it was on a
iBook borrowed from a friend, and it was my first experience with OS X. 
I don't have regular access to OS X, so I've been unable to get the port
100% working.
