System.DllNotFoundException: wx-c

I'm trying to run wx.NET on SuSE 9.0 Pro and all I can get is

Unhandled Exception: System.DllNotFoundException: wx-c
in <0x00053> (wrapper managed-to-native) wx.App:wxApp_ctor ()
in <0x00014> wx.App:.ctor ()
in <0x0000a> wxTest.TestApp:.ctor ()
in <0x0001b> wxTest.TestApp:Main ()

I have wxWidgets 2.5.2 installed like explained on the wx.NET install page with 
Mono 0.97 (RC1).

I have tried both the regular 0.4 and static 0.4 package with wx.NET.dll and 
libwx-c.so in my project folder and in /usr/lib/ without any success.

The app works fine under Windows XP with .NET using the static 0.4 package.
