can't run the binary samples?

Downloaded the binary installation from the webpage, and I can't run the 
samples....

I can compile and run the http://www.mono-project.com/Gtk:HelloWorld 
demo, and basic hello world c# files, and I'm using wxpython daily, so 
I'm not sure what libraries I might be missing.  I'm running this on 
ubuntu 5.04

Any help appreciated.
