Inheriting from 'object'

Hello everyone!

I'm a student from Austria and i'm writing a text about inheritance in 
Open Source-programs. I also looked at wx.NET and I realized, that a 
lot of classes is derived from 'Object' althrough this is the baseclass 
of each C#-class anyway. Can someone explain this to me? Thank you very
