More dissenters... I am not sure I understand his problem... but I've never used the HTML format either. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Paolo Basenghi <[email protected]> Date: May 26, 2007 10:45 AM Subject: Default to STDOUT: is it really a good thing? To: [email protected] Hello, I would like to add some consideration about the change introduced in 7.3.5 version that caused some trouble to me and some other users. I think developers should focus about what Logwatch is and what Logwatch is expected to do: - it is a tool that produces reports in a *well formatted* manner; - most sysadmins that use Logwatch want it to send reports by email and want that such reports are *well formatted*; - it is tipically run as a nightly cron task and only a few times in the command line (for example for test purposes or to obtain a more detailed report about a single service that failed). The cron service, on the other hand, sends a mail to the user only when there is some output from the task, but this is not aimed at the production of good mail reports (subject, from header, mime headers, etc.); the purpose is to not miss eventual error messages. So I think that this cron feature is not very convenient as a default for a program like Logwatch and in effect it causes trouble when the user request Logwatch to produce a HTML formatted mail. What about to revert to the old behaviour and make email the default output?
