Could it be that on one machine postfix logs to syslog, but not on the

Or that maybe on one machine systemd-journald sends logs to rsyslog,
but not on the other? So the output from journalctl shows postfix on
both systems, but /var/log/messages only shows them on one machine?

Try this on both machines:
grep postfix /var/log/messages
cat /var/log/messages | /usr/share/logwatch/scripts/postfix
