Making iCloud Calendar Events visible to Google Calendar

Doh,

I have been trying to make the events in my iCloud Calendar visible in
my Google Calendar.

I sent myself a 'sharing' email and *was* able to subscribe to the
iCloud calendar using the web cal url in the email in Evolution, the
Fedora Calendar/Mail/Task tool.

When I tried the same action on my Google Calendar the attempt
failed with a message that a 'robots.txt' file prevented fetching
the web cal url.

Is Google being picky, is Apple being sneaky or am I missing something
obvious.
