Hi All,

I'm having problems ejecting volumes (e.g. external disk) and optical =
disks (e.g. DVDs) from the Finder (GUI) in Mac OS X Mountain Lion =
(latest update) on MacBook Pro (around 2010). It won't eject, even when =
I choose the option to Force Eject, it won't successful eject. Seems =
like MDS and sometimes Finder have files open, but this doesn=92t =
explain inability to Force Eject. =20

I can Eject and Force Eject (not necessary now because Eject works) from =
the command line using something like "sudo hdiutil eject =
/Volumes/France" which is strange. I have had some problems in the past =
with my user's groups. I think it was since the upgrade to ML that my =
groups got mangled some way and I ended up in Wheel (as well as many =
other groups) but not correct primary group (Username).

I wonder if the fact that eject works with sudo (I should try without) =
but Finder eject always fails, even with a force eject, may be related =
to the mixup in groups? Should I be in Wheel if the account is an Admin =
account? How can I add myself back into Wheel (there is a file in Unix =
I seem to remember). Others have had similar problems with not being =
able to eject volumes in ML due to mds process.

Any help or suggestions most appreciated.

Cheers,
Ashley.

PS I've used lsof to see open files on the volume. I've tried killing =
the mds processes (they start again almost immediately). I've added =
volumes to the Spotlight preferences panel to stop it searching the =
volumes with no improvement. I've tried restarting the Finder. Of =
course, if I shutdown the volume is ejected but that is not a real =
solution ;-)
