Well, they are. Seriously. The single line I gave in even the simplest  
executable consistently  leads to a crash.

That's almost certainly because of GC, as autorelease is then a no-op.

So then why did Apple not fix Jim Correia's bug on 10.5? Seriously, I  
find it unacceptable behavior from Apple that once a new OS version is  
out they refuse such bugs in the old version, I've seen that many  
times now.
