how to access a mysql database on a server

Hi,

I have a problem and i need you help.

I need to receive data from a mysql database on a remote server to show on a iPhone. There's no webservice on the server (in php) so that i can authenticate (user + password), or receive XML files with the data that i need, nor to update some fields of the database.

How can i do it? Only thru the webservice that i don't have, and i don't know how to do it? (i don't know php)
