I didn't realize that you could control what classes of information Spotlight will try to serve up to you, but now I do. And yes, turning that one class off disappears the problem entirely. I just did a remote on the machine of one of my clients who also had exactly this problem. (She didn't know it, as she doesn't use Spotlight — I tried to use it to launch an app and got the immediate crash again.) I fixed it for her immediately with this trick.
