Unable to delete draft in Mail

Hi all:

I have a blank draft in Apple Mail which refuses to delete.  Sequence is as follows:

Delete draft which puts it in the trash,

Go to Mail -> Trash and delete.  message appears to be deleted.

Quit and restart Mail.  The ‘deleted’ draft is back in the draft folder.

Tried opening the draft and sending it as a message.  This appears to work but the bland draft is back next time I open Mail.

Done the same things after a restart in safe mode but no effect.

Anyone any ideas?  Terminal commands?  It’s not a big thing but it is irritating.
