Thanks, Themos, for your suggestion, but it doesn't work.  What I'd like is
to make u into a polynomial over the field PF p, but

u::POLY PF p

produces the error

Currently u is 3%C^2  + 2%C + 4, but I want to turn it into 3x^2+2x+4 over
PF p.
