Post Doctoral Research Associate
Combinatorial Scientific Computing

We invite applications for a postdoctoral research associate with research
interests in parallel computing, combinatorial algorithms, and/or
scientific computing, to join the CSCAPES Institute funded by the
Department of Energy's Office of Science. This position is at Old Dominion
University (ODU), in Norfolk VA. Employment will be through the Old
Dominion University Research Foundation, a private non-profit corporation.

The CSCAPES (Combinatorial Scientific Computing and Petascale Simulations)
Institute, is led by Alex Pothen from ODU, and includes additional ODU
researchers and researchers from Sandia and Argonne National Laboratories,
Ohio State and Colorado State Universities. The CSCAPES Institute is
funded by the Department of Energy's Scientific Discovery through
Advanced Computing (SciDAC) program. The research involves developing
algorithms for combinatorial problems arising in scientific computing,
such as load-balancing, automatic differentiation, parallel algorithms for
graph coloring and graph matching, and performance enhancement on tera-
and peta-scale computers.

The work at ODU will primarily focus on combinatorial problems in
automatic differentiation, and massively parallel algorithms and software
development for graph matching and coloring. The post-doctoral scientist
will be expected to collaborate with researchers from other institutions
in the CSCAPES project as well as domain scientists and engineers from
other SciDAC projects. More details on the CSCAPES Institute are available
at www.cscapes.org. The position will be offered initially for up to one
year, and is renewable, based on satisfactory performance during the
CSCAPES project. Alumni of the ODU computational sciences research group
have found ongoing employment at the DOE labs, major universities, and
industry.

The application deadline is May 1, 2007, with an expected start date in
June/July 2007 (negotiable). To apply, send a resume and request three
confidential letters of references to Old Dominion University Research
Foundation, P.O. Box 6369, Norfolk, VA 23508 or e-mail [email protected]
Specify job # 07022. AA/EOE
