Call for ACM Student Research Competition (SRC) Poster

SC13 is inviting graduate and undergraduate students to submit their
work to the SC13 ACM Student Research Competition (SRC). Submitted
posters should display cutting-edge, interesting research in high
performance computing, storage, networking and analytics. Sponsored by
ACM and Microsoft Research, the SRC is an excellent forum for students
to share research results, engage in short presentations and informal
discussions with conference attendees, exchange ideas with their
peers, and improve their communication skills while competing for
prizes.

General Submission Requirements and Selection Criteria

All poster participants must submit the following information:

• The title of the poster and student name, affiliations, and the name
  of the academic advisor.
• A camera-ready abstract of the poster, up to 150 words.
• A separate description outlining the content of the poster, up to
  800 words, which describes the research problem, motivation and
  background, techniques and results, and the prospect for clearly and
  concisely conveying the work in a poster format. Further, it should
  emphasize the novel contributions of the work explicitly.
• A draft or mock of the poster as it will appear at he poster
  session. Complete or preliminary work is preferred; use placeholders
  where necessary. The poster size limit is 8 feet wide by 4 feet
  high.
• Please indicate the eligibility for SRC of your poster & whether you
  are an undergraduate or graduate student. Entering the SRC is
  optional. Competition-eligible posters must be authored solely by an
  ACM student member, with student status as of July 31, 2013.

A panel of experts will evaluate the submissions based on novelty of
approach, significance of contribution, and quality of work.

SRC Competition and Awards

The SRC consists of 2 rounds: a poster session on Tuesday November 19,
2013 and a presentation session on Wednesday November 20, 2013. A
panel of judges will select a number of finalists from the poster
session, who will be invited to the presentation session at SC 13 to
compete for the prizes. Evaluation will concentrate on the quality of
the visual and oral presentation, research methods, and the
significance of the contribution.

The top 3 undergraduate and graduate winners will receive the
following prizes:
• Monetary prizes of $500, $300, and $200, respectively.
• A 2-year ACM membership with ACM Digital Library subscription.
• Winners' names & abstracts will be posted on ACM's SRC web site.
• An invitation to the SRC Grand Finals, an online competition among
  the winners of conference- hosted SRCs.

Finalists and their advisors will be invited to the SC13 Awards
Ceremony on November 21, 2013, to be recognized along with other
prestigious SC13 award winners.

Travel Support

Undergraduate and graduate students submitting their posters for the
ACM SRC can consider applying to these programs and opportunities to
partially support their travel to SC13:
• Student Volunteer Program – deadline due on July 31, 2013
• Experiencing HPC for Undergraduates Program – deadline due on July 31, 2013
• Broader Engagement Program – deadline due on July 31, 2013
• CRA-W Travel Grant to SC – deadline due on August 15, 2013
• SIGHPC Travel Grant to SC – deadline due on September 15, 2013

Note that the selection of students for these three programs and the
SIGHPC grant is performed by different committees than the ACM SRC
committee. Having a poster accepted to SC13 does not automatically
qualify a student for a travel support.
