ℵ) You could do it in 2.0.* too.

ℶ) I’m not sure, but why do you think it is better than the current
   mess with postscript?

ℷ) I think tools for PS→PDF are much more common than those for SVG→PS.
   And I think most people want PDF (or TeX — which was also possible
   with 2.0.*) as the end result.
