I ignored/missed your question in your first reply. I did not set LDFLAGS. However, after checking with ‘env’, I see it is set, and includes that pesky definition. I can’t be sure, but my only guess now is that it comes from building Sage with the new conda/mamba scheme. In any case, I reran the build, and it succeeded. I’ll try out 2.18.1 alpha tomorrow.
