You would have to burn the image to a physical CD or DVD medium to boot it successfully. (It is technically possible to craft a BIOS-only ISO image in a special way in order to be bootable both from a CD/DVD and from a USB stick, but we don't do that currently.) In case you use Debian, installing the grub-efi-amd64 package might enable you to create the UEFI or hybrid ISO. But I'm not a Debian user, thus I cannot confirm. Of course, Matthias' approach should definitively also work.
