Anyways, one of the reasons i've selected as Iguana as the base upon  
which to provide the underlying OS to my work with FreeBSD is because  
of all the "niceities" that it provides.

First, Iguana provides a lot of nice things that I don't want to have  
to bother implementing atop a strict microkernel like L4::Pistachio,  
such as virtual memory management, as well as thread and access  
rights management. Iguana also provides a nicer (in my opinion)  
interface for dealing with IPC on top of L4. I'm a firm believer in  
Newton's quote (or was it Einsteins?) "I have seen farther only by  
standing on the shoulder's of giants."  Basically, NICTA has done  
this before, they use Iguana for their Wombat project (very similar  
to L4Linux) as well as their Darbat project, and I trust that they  
have built a good hypervisor upon which to work.

Secondly. Iguana, that's just a cool name, isn't that enough? :)

Thirdly, it really depends on what you want to do. I think I  
understand the way a microkernel works, I am not interested in the  
academics of it really, I'm interested in what one can do on top of  
that microkernel. My dayjob is in very abstracted languages, I want  
to use the tools available. HOWEVER, there are some great benefits to  
coding straight on top of Pistachio, you get lots of leet points ;)


As for examples, NICTA has a hello-world example, as well as the  
iguana-shell, and some other services running on top of Iguana:
