Help Request: Hang during (after?) Kickstart.

Hi Guys

Sorry if this is not the forum for help requests, I could find no other.  And
I also apologise if I have already sent a truncated version of this to the
list.  Interesting things happen if you hit TAB in gmail.

The gist of of my problem is that after building the kernel and user
space, and making a floppy image according (as much as possible)
to the instructions at
http://l4ka.org/projects/pistachio/ia32/gettingstarted.php,
I can't boot (see below for details).  The last thing I see is
Kickstart saying "Launching Kernel..." and after that there is
(almost) no output at tall, not even spin wheels.
I assume that is not mean to happen.  I had been assuming the "pingpong" program
would run and that I would some more meaningful results.

The system I have built is for the amd64 (which is the same as my host system),
but so far I have only tested it using QEMU.  During every attempt, I have had
to have the kernel debugger switched on, and using the serial
interface (otherwise
I can not compile the kernel at all), but I have tried various
combinations of serial
and not-serial for the users space.   As I as said, I do not see spinwheels,
even after turning them on.

The only way I get any output at all is at the serial interface.  It
keeps going through
the alphabet of capital letters, printing " ?^M", where ? stands for
the capital letter
in question.  I had assumed pingpong is supposed to do something more
interesting.

Does anyone have a clue what might be going on?
