Given the GOCC community=92s interest in open standards and open code in=20=

government, Massachusetts would like to receive comments from GOCC=20
participants on the latest public review draft of its Enterprise=20
Technical Reference Model that addresses Data Formats.

  After receiving comments from the public regarding our proposed Open=20=

Formats standards earlier this year we have had a series of discussions=20=

with industry representatives and experts about our future direction.=20
These discussions have centered on open formats particularly as they=20
relate to office documents, their importance for the current and future=20=

accessibility of government records, and the relative "openness" of the=20=

format options available to us.

The new draft version of the Data Formats section of our Enterprise=20
Technical Reference Model (beginning on page 16) identifies the newly=20
ratified OASIS Open Document Format for Office Applications=20
(OpenDocument) as our standard for office documents and may be accessed=20=

at www.mass.gov/itd (see feature story in the center of the page).=20
Additional open and acceptable formats are also identified for other=20
types of documents. We would love to hear your comments and=20
suggestions.
