I've got only I2CS devices but whenever I replace anything I update the code and then do a "Force scan all device link tables" then "Delete orphan links" and then "sync all links" And have never had an issue. On a PLM replacement this also works fine after linking all the devices with the exception of KPLs, I've never been able to "fix" a KPL other than factory reset it, then repair it and sync links. I think I've got ~20 devices or so, but all wired (nothing battery).
