[mh] Getting started with Razberry and z-wave

I'm just getting started with z-wave and the Razberry hat on my RPi4,
and I could use some help.

Questions:

 1. I've installed the z-way software on the RPi, and it seems to talk
to the Razberry hat just fine.  I don't like z-way much, because it
spontaneously talks to outside services and apparently announces my
Razberry and offers control of my Razberry (presumably with password
controls, but still...). Does MH rely on z-way to operate, or can I
leave z-way down unless I have a specific need for it?
 2. I'm currently using the Razberry with it's onboard antenna. Does
that work for other people, or do I need to add an external antenna?
If the onboard antenna works, what kind of range might I expect?
This is not essential information, but it would be helpful if anyone
    has any insight.
 3. I can't seem to get the Razberry and my GE Enbrighten Z-wave switch
    <https://byjasco.com/mwdownloads/download/link/id/1597/> to "pair".
Can someone tell me if I'm on the right path, or if there's a better
    way? My process is to:
     1. Point a browser at Z-way and log in
     2. Select Devices
     3. Select Z-Wave
     4. Select "Add new"
     5. Click "Add new Z-Wave Device and Identify..."
     6. Click "Start" (tried both "secure" and "unsecured" mode)
     7. Hit the rocker switch on the GE switch, per it's pairing
instruction. Either paddle is supposed to work, but I've tried
both, double clicks, and long clicks without change.
     8. Z-way never seems to hear from the switch.  I've tried from 15
feet away, and from about 3 feet, so I don't think it's a range
issue. The z-way logs indicate that it's listening, and I don't
see anything I recognize as errors. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide in getting me started.
