Same here. If I had to start from scratch today I think I'd try Home
Assistant.

I think the difficult part is choosing the hardware to replace INSTEON
-- there are so many standards and options that it is hard to choose.

I am waiting for Matter devices to be more omnipresent, but... I keep
waiting.

It was merged into master, and has received a couple of fixes and
improvements since the initial merge. There is no stable release with
that code, though.
