Confirmations are not being recognized by qconfirm-check

My apologies if this is an FAQ. 
 
qconfirm-check is being invoked, but not recognizing confirmations 
that I receive. I can manually release the id and the id being created 
in the ok directory matches the one placed in the pending 
directory. Also, I was surprised when *I* as the owner of the qconfirm 
process, was asked for confirmation! 
 
I have daemontools installed, but am running qmail directly from a 
script as /var/qmail/rc as I have for many years.  I'm not sure what 
sort of IPC is occurring between qconfirm and qmail. If it is a 
straight pipe into qmail, then qconfirm is not grogging the 
addresses...  BTW, this is on a 10.3 os x laptop. I do have a machine 
running FreeBSD should that make life easier. 
 
Sorry, if I seem lazy, I'm not, but I spend less and less time doing 
this sort of thing and I would really like to get qconfirm going. I'd 
appreciate direction to limit my de-bugging. Many *Thanks*.
