Fwd: Getting Workrave Data Over Network Interface

Hello,

First of all, thank you for all developers and maintainers for such a
useful software. Me and my colleagues are using Workrave to keep our joints
healthy.

I am electronics and software hobbyist and I am plannig to build a clock
like deivce connected to computer to display times kept by Workrave, like
time to break etc. I decided to write a seperate software to get Workrave
data over network interface and send it to display rather than digging into
Workrave source code and modifying it. Workrave is able to work with
Workraves on other PCs over network. I am using single computer (Win7) and
single Workrave without network support. My software working on same
computer will implement sufficient part of Workrave protocol to get time
information. Two softwares will be connected over loopback network.

I couldn't find any documentation about network protocol. So, I started to
study code to understand network protocol. I have two computers, one is
running Win 7 and other is Ubuntu. I installed Workrave on Ubuntu using
package manager. As far as I remember, Workrave on Ubuntu is 1.09 (I
couldn't access to my Ubuntu computer at the moment.) On Win 7, version is
1.10. They are seem to be talking each other but periodically they log
errors about network communication. I don't know whether there is a
protocol difference between two version. I captured network data using
Wireshark and with the help of source code I started to write protocol
parser script in Wireshark to analyze data. Upto now, I can understand some
network packages. But protocol reverse engineering takes long time.

Is there a documentation about network protocol? Do you think that my
approach (writing another software) is feasible? At minimal level, which
requests and responds should be implemented by my new software to obtain
time information?
