If you search the archives of this mailing list, you will find many discussions of how to write programs that change the settings of Workrave while it is running. See for example messages with these titles (among others): Scheduling WorkRave Changing Workrave mode without using the GUI? You can write a program that detects how many episodes your son has watched today and then adjusts Workrave's settings. The latest news is that this already can be done for Linux and hopefully soon (already?) for Windows.
