RE: LG sms message format

I took some time trying to figure out the SMS format on the LG VX3200
phones. I believe there are a lot of similarities with the other LG models.
I didn't find out much, and you probably already know what I figured out.

Messages that were sent and messages received had different formats. Plus if
the message used EMS features then things were encoded differently. I only
managed to figure out a few elements of the non-EMS inbox###.dat and
outbox###.dat:
* 20 character preview
* Message length
* Message text (7 bits/char)
* Sender/recipient name(s)
* Sender/recipient phone number(s)

According to the 3GPP TS (3rd Generation Partnership Project; Technical
Specification) 23.040, it says that EMS messages are encoded with some form
of LZSS compression when transmitted. It spec doesn't explain exactly how it
should work, and of course it may not even save it that way on the LG phone.

The EMS images, and animations (mediapic###.dat, mediaani###.dat) saved from
EMS messages are what I worked heavily on deciphering. I got those figured
out enough where I can make my own. Posts on HowardForums.com also helped
explain the EMS sounds format (mediamel###.dat).

Has anybody managed to decipher the SMS format on LG phones?
Unfortunately they appear to use a different format depending
on which 'folder' the message is in, as well as what appears
to be some sort of section headers.
