Just to toss out an idea, what about something where the icon has an
optional submenu?

So, you can either hit the button and it will do it's default, or you
can hit the little optional submenu and choose another action that is
slightly different (bypass BitPim Editor)

I know this exists in Photoshop, and obviously the MS Office applications.
