I thought about it, and there were 2 main reasons that I put it into 
each phone model:

1. Readily access to the phone module in gui.  That worked out as 
expected.
2. I hoped that I could put it in the parent class once and let the 
children classes inherit the common helpid.  That did not work out as 
well as I had hoped.
