I would assume that the compiled application (BitPim.app) would not require Python on the running system - only running from source would require Python. Just as another data point, I worked on the modules to support the LG 6100. I did that work from Mac OS X 10.3.x. When I upgraded to 10.4.x, I was unable to get BitPim running from source. I had issues with wxPython. Since I was done with the LG 6100 modules at the time, I didn't pursue it further.
